The home city of street style and laneway art is hotting up to host the Asia Pacific's first ever tradeshow and public expo for the streetwear sector. Taking place from 26 to 28 February in the heart of Melbourne, ground breaking street style showcase Buffet promises a feast of clothing, accessories, footwear and contemporary & street design and culture.


Industry defied punishing heat and humidity at Fashion Exposed to participate in what many are now describing as a highlight of the trade fair's 20-season history. Fashion Exposed and the co-located Australian Shoe Fair reported strong visitor attendance, up (collectively across the fairs) by 30 per cent up on last year's event.


The Bonds factory at Unanderra in southern Wollongong, NSW has received formal notice it will close within six weeks, spelling the end of questions over the future for around 200 clothing workers. The move follows parent company Pacific Brands' controversial announcement in February 2009 of its intention to lay off 1,850 staff at plants around Australia.


The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has launched an Australian first, with the inauguration of a new online Employment Relations Management System compliant with the Fair Work Act and the Modern Retail Award.

Small businesses should be compensated for the time they spend being unpaid tax collectors, according to a Federal Government submission by the National Institute of Accountants (NIA)

This month will see the launch of a new label created specifically to defy the offshore relocation of Australian manufacturing. Fashion consultancy Australian Fashion Partners (AFP)'s aptly named ‘Made Right Here' brand will launch mid-February.


Melbourne born ladies lounge and sleepwear label Yuu will soon be spreading its classic, timeless style further afield, thanks to the appointment of two new agents.
